Simply Sound Advice: Going Against the Grain
The internet is a battlefield. It rewards the loudest voices, the flashiest promises, and the creators who know how to manipulate an audience into clicking, subscribing, and buying. Clickbait headlines dominate search results. Funnels are designed to play on fears and insecurities. Authenticity is often pushed aside for tactics that promise quick wins and higher revenue.
When I started Simply Sound Advice, I knew I couldn’t follow that path. Clickbait and manipulation should not be rewarded. I wanted to create something different—a place where people could find real, trustworthy advice rooted in lived experience. It hasn’t been the easiest path, but it’s the one I believe in. This is why I chose to go against the grain.
What the Industry Rewards
Spend five minutes searching for advice on personal development, and you’ll see the same patterns repeated over and over. Titles like “The One Trick to Fix Your Life Overnight” or “How I Made $100,000 in 30 Days Without Trying” are everywhere. These articles and videos often overpromise and underdeliver, leaving people feeling disappointed or exploited.
Then there are the funnels—entire systems designed to manipulate you into buying products you don’t need. These tactics rely on creating urgency, amplifying insecurities, and promising instant gratification. They might work for short-term profits, but they erode trust and leave audiences disillusioned.
When I saw this firsthand, I knew I couldn’t build my platform this way. Manipulating people for clicks or sales might make money, but it doesn’t help anyone. I wanted Simply Sound Advice to be a place where readers could feel safe, respected, and genuinely supported.
Why I Chose a Different Path
The decision to build Simply Sound Advice around authenticity and ethics wasn’t just a business choice—it was a personal one. If I lied, used clickbait, or promoted products I didn’t believe in, I might make more money, but I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
I started this site because I wanted to help people. I wanted to share advice that’s grounded in real experience—whether it’s about overcoming challenges, improving relationships, managing finances, or building healthier habits. Every piece of content on Simply Sound Advice is created with one question in mind: Will this actually help someone?
The Challenges of Staying True to My Values
Choosing this path hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced challenges that would have been easier to overcome if I were willing to compromise my values.
Slower Growth
It’s no secret that clickbait headlines and sensational claims attract attention. By avoiding those tactics, my growth has been slower than it could have been. Competing against big corporations and creators who rely on manipulation often feels like an uphill battle.
Less Revenue
If I promoted just about anything and everything—or built elaborate sales funnels—I could probably make a lot more money. But at what cost? I’m not interested in pushing products or services that don’t align with my values. Financial success is important, but it’s not worth sacrificing integrity.
How I Define Success
For me, success isn’t about making six figures or hitting a million pageviews. It’s about impact. Simply Sound Advice is being viewed by someone every single day. Knowing that my words are helping even one person is enough to feel like I’ve succeeded.
Of course, I have goals. I’d love to see more traffic, more engagement, and yes, more income. But at its core, this site is already achieving what I set out to do: providing sound advice that people can trust. For me, that’s what success looks like.
The Rewards of Authenticity
While the challenges are real, the rewards of choosing an ethical path are even greater. I’ve built a small but loyal audience who trusts what I say. I’ve received messages from readers who share how my articles helped them through tough times. Those moments are priceless.
One of my favorite rewards is knowing that I’m building something sustainable. By focusing on authenticity and trust, I’m creating a foundation that can grow over time—one built on real connections, not flashy tactics.
Advice for Others Considering This Path
If you’re thinking about starting a blog, a business, or any kind of creative project, here’s my advice: focus on the journey, not the destination. It’s a tough road if you’re only thinking about the outcome. Growth can be slow, and there will be setbacks. But if you learn to appreciate every small win—not just the big ones—you’ll find joy in the process.
Also, stay true to yourself. Write or create about what you know and care about. Authenticity resonates, and it’s the only way to build something meaningful.
